Are you in the market for a new water heater in Memphis? Then it’s important that you know the ins and outs of the new federal water heater regulations and how they’ll affect you.
New Water Heater Regulations
On April 16, 2015, the new guidelines for water heater issued by the U.S. Department of Energy go into effect. These guidelines are intended to improve the energy-efficiency of American households and help reduce our nation’s overall energy consumption. In order to do this, the newest model water heaters have better insulation, as well as more effective heating elements. So how does this work in practice?
For homes with water heaters with a storage tank of up to 55 gallons, the new replacement models will be an estimated four percent more energy efficient. Due to the new insulation requirements, they’ll also be about 2 inches larger than the old models.
If you’re looking to replace a water heater with a storage tank of more than 55 gallons, the new model will be considerably more energy efficient. However, it will also be significantly larger. This might mean that you need to find a different location in your home to install it.
Tankless Water Heater
If you’re looking for the most energy-efficient option to heat your water, why not consider a tankless water heater? This type of appliance heats water on demand when the hot water faucet is open, thereby eliminating the need to keep a large tank full of water heated. This saves considerably on energy costs. Moreover, you never run out of hot water, so cold showers are a thing of the past! Last, but certainly not least, a tankless water heater is much smaller than a conventional model, making it easier to find a good location in the home to install it.
